I have heard that kids who had alcoholic or drug-addicted parents or relatives are more likely to become addicted to those substances as well. Do genes really play a role in this or is it more of an environmental factor?

Do you know of any oppurtunities for research in genetics or autism that I could apply for over the summer? I live in New York (long island), and any science research internships or programs that you know about would be great. Thanks! =)

I was watching some spiders clean and repair their webs after some ash from my ciggy hit their webs, and I found it fascinating that they hatch with the precise knowledge needed to build, use, clean and maintain a web.
So is there a creature born/hatched with even more precise knowledge? Or is this something very few creatures actually do.

In cattle, black coat color is dominant to white coat color. A farmer has a black male of undetermined genotype. How can the farmer determine the genotype of this black male?
Would the answer be that the farmer could have the black male mate with a white female or???
Thanks,
Bob

This is just something that I have been wondering about for a while.
Say, for example, the father has identical twin brothers. Would this increase the chance of conceiving twins? Or is it more or less based on the mother’s genes? I tried looking this up elsewhere on the interwebs, but couldn’t find a specific enough answer. Thought maybe Y!A could help me out tonight :)
For the record, I’m not pregnant, nor do I plan on getting pregnant any time soon, I’m just curious.
Thanks in advance!
