I’ve heard that mesothemiola though caused by asbestos, pretty much only occurs in smokers. Meanwhile my step-mom, her sister, father, mother and son have all had cancer and non were smokers.
Are some people pretty much immune to cancer unless they are exposed to severe carcinogens?

How do you determine if the phenotype of a certain specimen is caused by environmental effects or its genotype/genetics?
for example:if a corn is sweet/shrunken, how do you know that it wasn’t caused by the environment from where it grew?
