I have heard that kids who had alcoholic or drug-addicted parents or relatives are more likely to become addicted to those substances as well. Do genes really play a role in this or is it more of an environmental factor?

If we are to use the argument that some people are the way they are because of genetics…….
Then why are some acceptable and others not?
Wouldn’t everyone and everything they do be acceptable under the assumption they were born that way?

I know it’s only a movie but watch the 1997 film “Gattaca” with Ethan Hawk and Uma Thurman. It makes you think.
Brief run down of what the movie is about…
During this time society analyzes your DNA and determines where you belong in life.
A cold and soulless world where the content of your genes counted for everything while the content of your character counted for nothing.

I remember reading it somewhere that your height is based on 80% nutrition and 20% genetics. Or it might have been 90% nutrition and 10% genetics, I can’t remember.
But I just want to know if its true.
If it is, then what can I eat and drink that will give me the nutritions to grow tall?
Thank you.

I’m not asking if someone could have more addictive tendencies, or even things such as depression that could run in the family. I’m asking along the lines of more of a personality trait, such as coldness, a cheery outlook, a “wild child” when the adoptive parents are reserved, things like that. Is it the environment that shapes things like that, or could it be that genetics shape a personality?
